Business Data Catalog Definition Editor

To create the .xml files needed by the BDC to catch up the metadata, Microsoft has a free downloadable tool created for this: The Business Data Catalog Definition Editor. It comes with the Office SharePoint 2007 SDK and is a very helpful tool to create these sometimes complex .xml files.

Although it is a great tool, there are also 3rd party tools available that can handle more complex situations/application definitions, such as 'BDC Meta Man' from Lightning Tools.

So, if you're doing a lot of this stuff, it might be wise to invest a bit in a good tool!
